Sociopaths often encounter legal difficulties due to their disregard for societal standards and the rights of individuals which often includes criminal activity. Devoid of morals or conscience, they do not experience a full range of human emotions which explains their lack of empathy and the suffering that they cause. Generally, they remain indifferent to the possibility of physical pain or punishment and show no remorse or fear; this may explain their apparent disregard for the consequences of their actions.
Constituents and associates seldom recognize dysfunctional behavior in politicians until the sociopath reaches forty years of age when issues get out of hand and create media interest. Associates first recognize coercion and employees fear contact unless they have the courage to complain.
Through his alleged criminal conduct which violates the rights of other individuals, Jeremy Dear has revealed himself as antisocial during his seven-year sojourn as NUJ general secretary. His pathological lying (a predominant attribute of sociopathic behavior) has shown a dysfunctional progression recently brought to fruition in more outrageous behavior.
The term “sociopath” (formerly psychopath) describes the DSM-IV clinical term “antisocial personality disorder” which defines aggressive, impulsive, antisocial behavior. Diagnostic criteria define antisocial personality disorder as a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others which occurs after sociopaths attain the age of 15 years. The condition bases upon failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that give grounds for arrest.
The remedy requires indictment and eventual confinement in prison or a mental institution. If left to their own devices, sociopaths transfer or displace their condition onto others then accuse them of similar dysfunction. The condition classifies as incurable: sociopaths do not possess the ability to effect behavioral change. When two sociopaths work as a team, the situation becomes extremely dangerous for anyone who even looks at them askance.
Pathological lying consists of wild accusations without substantiation (often fed to the liar by rogue lawyers) in such a way that the accused person does not know to what the liar refers. Apart from individual volatility, the sociopath becomes a straw (unethical proxy) for lawyers so that they do not have to account for their professional misconduct.
Dear recently claimed: “I do not believe your email is in accordance with the facts, is erroneous on points of law and the complaint is frivolous, vexatious and entirely unreasonable”. Rhetorical analysis of that sentence showed that a lawyer probably wrote it and made it available as part of a campaign of obstruction and dissemination of false and misleading information while evading accountability. Apart from a vague allusion to an outstanding issue it contained no substance whatsoever. The parrot mimicked the buzzard.
In another example, Dear evidently had a “hissy fit” which usually accompanies a sociopathic attack. In a “vexatious” email message (06 Feb 09), Dear responded to correspondence without any reference to the issues. He begged the question by assuming truth of a statement that needs proving to evade giving an answer. He assumed that a complaint currently exists against Gareth Thomas MP when the message in fact requested Thomas to initiate an inquiry into dereliction and illegal activity by HM Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
Dear responded to the following message with assumption, innuendo, and accusation that had no bearing on the topic. He previously behaved in a similar way in an attempt to defame the author and destroy his credentials. He repeatedly demonstrates a classic pattern of antisocial personality disorder using transference, the process which displaces emotions from one person to another.
PT-09-0206-08:09. You have made another false and misleading statement and used a red herring to distract attention from the main issue. No "debate/inquiry in respect of the actions of Gareth Thomas MP" has been suggested or is intended at this time.
By its previous actions: a meeting among Gareth Thomas and NUJ officials (Toner/Sutcliffe) at House of Commons; a subsequent meeting with you and Toner when you promised to act on the issues; a commissioned inquiry by NUJ into illegal withholding of documents by FCO; and, your approval of the language for a motion for consideration by NUJ Finance Committee; NUJ has in fact already committed to inquiry into FCO dereliction and concealment during the past several years. You have not developed the thesis that you approved:
"Bring the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office to account for dereliction with an action for malicious damage by conspiracy to commit to solitary confinement and torture without legal counsel or probable cause contrary to Vienna conventions for consuls. David C. Broom (formerly HM Consul, Seattle) now living in retirement in Seattle, colluded with the judge to move the member to solitary confinement when he did not take down the web site. The judge locked down the member incommunicado, then guards made him lie on a cold concrete slab 23 hours a day for 25 days (without his gout and prostate medication) to coerce him. The reason: someone had distributed a draft article that the member had written about elder abuse without his knowledge while he languished in jail which evidently provoked the torture. Later, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) officials learned of Broom's conspiracy. Instead of addressing the issues and convening an inquiry into his involvement, they retroactively destroyed all documents and proof to cover up the dereliction."

Dear’s response boggles the mind. He mentions: abuse of staff when he does the abusing; current redundancy when he has effectively prevented the author from obtaining gainful employment for seven years; libel without substantiating the content he finds libelous“; libel of “officials and elected members of the union” whom he does not name; and, “rude comments” without defining the term or providing details of an actionable occurrence.
If Dear had taken the trouble to read the NUJ amicus curiae court documents, then he would have seen that Washington Supreme Court threw out as protected speech claims of rudeness; consequently, the court made them legally inadmissible by precedent. Dear responded to the above message:
JD-09-0206-1435. It seems astonishing for you to say that an email headed "Parliamentary Inquiry", that has as its subject "Parliamentary Inquiry - Gareth Thomas" and asks "what action has the NUJ taken to convene a Parliamentary Inquiry . . . " should according to you not be about a Parliamentary Inquiry in respect of the actions of Gareth Thomas MP.
The constant abuse of staff to whom I have a duty of care, the rude and libelous comments about officials and elected members of the union, the constant requests for unnecessary information and the disproportionate amount of time taken up by your raising superfluous issues when there are real issues being faced by members facing redundancy every day means I do not intend to enter into any further unnecessary correspondence with you regarding these matters. I consider your claims to be vexatious.
Dear refers to government dereliction that involved imprisonment and torture as a “superfluous issue” and information required to substantiate writing as “requests for unnecessary information”. It takes the cunning of a psychopath to deliberately concentrate six acts of malicious libel into eighty-two words then send them to the author’s member of parliament in a veiled attempt to obstruct justice.
The fact that Dear publishes without verifying and validating sources does not mean that ethical reporters act the same way. The author does not know whether to pity Dear for his apparent mental illness or satirize him for ignorant and diabolical practices. Juvenal (c.60-130), a lawyer-satirist, remarked: “difficile est saturam non scribere” (it's hard not to write satire): Dear makes it harder all the time.
Dysfunctional leaders turn lying and obfuscation into a universal principle to attain economic and political self-interest. As a pathological liar, Dear now believes every word that he utters and does not show the inner conflict that he has with truth. Cynically, he manipulates both union members and his staff - the former by false sincerity and the latter by fear and abuse.
The rage or tantrums that sociopaths frequently exhibit may represent the limit of emotion that they can experience. They imitate other people to mask their psychotic tendencies. They often choreograph themselves like stage actors by studying other people. They dupe constituents, staff, elected officials, and other people with whom they come into contact.
Union members usually possess the intelligence, experience, and initiative to look after themselves; however, for a union general secretary and his lawyer to evade legal responsibility by coercing lower echelon staff to act as unlawful proxies, and to encourage them to spread lies or withhold member information, ranks beneath contempt. Employees frequently cannot complain without losing their jobs: a fear exacerbated by recession and possible criminal charges for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Generally, the public does not understand that dysfunctional actors leave inquiring minds confused, resentful, or blank. They destroy ethical and political significance. Then empathic association has no virtue and no value for rational people trying to uplift union ethics through reasoned argument. If they accept indoctrination then they give up their power. By that, they irrationally empower a self-aggrandizing "star" to rule.
Dear has adopted an absolutist thespian role; however, absolute power corrupts absolutely, both personally and symbolically. He relies upon a false credibility conceived in pathological lying - persistent lying that continues until lies become the liar's reality. Then he perceives that his audience subserves his charisma in a magical, extraterrestrial, theatrical aura which disguises his need to banish opponents to benefit exclusive cabal members.
Psychopathic (or sociopathic) dysfunction allows liars to believe that rules and morals apply only to weaker people who obey them for fear of punishment. They feel indifference and contempt for others and believe that they “have it coming”.
For the gullible in their life, they use an ingratiating manner and superficial charm to appear persuasive, poised, and self-assured: dimensions acquired through a lack of conscious feelings that moral people possess. With complete indifference for the truth, sociopaths lie, feign forgetfulness, then use time-warp strategies to distort the past and confuse or manipulate the present. Frequently, they lie simply for the fun of it to a point where they expose themselves. When cornered, they offer flimsy excuses or insincere apologies then spew more lies. Political correctness ranks as a primary tool used by sociopaths. [Political Correctness]
Political correctness ensures that free expression thrives upon the non-selection and non-promotion of those with nonconformist views - a process that results in the standard of quality and excellence emanating from those making judgment and a cultist instinct toward conformity. That conformity eliminates any inconvenient nonconformity (also honest dissent) then cabal members remain safe from free expression or criticism. That cloning process guarantees the preservation of, and extends the range of, mediocrity into all media and compensates for lack of merit and ability.
Solidarity among journalists, that existed several decades ago, no longer exists. Too many of them have followed their mother’s politically correct admonition: “If you cannot say something nice about somebody else then say nothing”. Moreover, media trade unions have become politically correct private clubs for an elite giving only lip-service to ethical behavior. It seems that fear of losing union perquisites and jobs has taken precedence over journalism ethics.
Union officials fear dissent which encourages aversion to controversy and an addiction to political correctness. They assume the role of absolute censors. Others, unable to take any personal initiative, shrug their shoulders and pass all requests to equally indecisive policy makers who take the easy way out and either condone or approve media blackouts. They disengage themselves by insisting that politicians must decide these "political problems" and, in turn, those politicians use willful blindness to evade their union responsibilities; otherwise, they must defend their extrajudicial activities.
Censorship and prior restraint place exclusive conditions on freedom of expression and, consequently, media freedom. Any type of censorship restricts to narrowly defined criteria what people may say. Politically correct ideologies require everyone to learn the same way, to teach the same way, to research the same way, to discourse the same way, and to write the same way. Subsequently, that conformity destroys any vestige of individuality still left in the media. The exclusivity forces everyone to become a clone of someone else. It enables those in power to deny media freedom to dissenters. It also allows them to destroy the careers of nonconformists.
Sincerity implies honesty and an absence of moral conflict. It can also harbor insensitivity or stupidity. Dear has now reached the limits of his imagination and can only revert to playing himself.
When a lead performer changes from lies to truth in mid-performance it utterly destroys the illusion. For the illusion to continue then the lying must also continue. Dear has realized too late that absolutists cannot survive without lying.
No longer relaxed, a requirement for union leadership, Dear has destroyed the receptivity of his audience and personal paranoia has replaced it. Truth and sub-literacy have taken away his power.

That suited his purpose to defame the author and to cover-up his eight-year neglect to support him on issues that affect all journalists. NUJ media blackouts cover up his dereliction. Roy Martin Mincoff (NUJ in-house solicitor) negotiated a £262,000.00 quid pro quo between NUJ and the author's member of parliament, Gareth R Thomas MP (Harrow West), Minister of State, Department for International Development in a distinct conflict of interest. Both Mincoff and his predecessor Claire S Kirby (Thompsons Solicitors, Cardiff) are under investigation by Solicitors Regulation Authority for professional misconduct. Criminal complaints are pending against NUJ officials and NEC officers for fraud and neglect to provide member services.
